Fingerless Work Gloves – Buyers Guide
A decent pair of fingerless work gloves will give you all the protection and warmth a standard pair of gloves will, but with the bonus of having average dexterity. And that’s the critical point. It’s so annoying to take off one glove to use your smartphone or tablet or be cold when doing intricate plumbing or electrical work. Fingerless work gloves will make you more efficient.
There are apparent differences between the ones we tested. Some had some very thoughtful design features that meant they could be worn year-round as a hand protector. To help you make the right purchase, we’ve put together some pointers to help you.
Comfort
Arguably the most crucial factor when buying anything you wear is how comfortable they are. Gloves are likely to remain on for prolonged periods, so they must be flexible, lightweight, and made from solid materials. Material that has some stretch in them will mean you have greater flexibility, range of movement, and comfort. Some manufacturers add a padded knuckle panel for more excellent protection from punctures and abrasions.
High-Class Durability
Think about the type of jobs you’ll be doing while wearing these. If you are doing heavy-duty work, you’ll need a pair that’ll go the distance and not fall apart quickly. It’s a false economy to keep buying cheap gloves.
There are two areas where gloves will fail. Firstly, the stitching will come apart either on the fingers or on the velcro strap. It tends to happen where there’s the most movement. When the stitching comes undone, the gloves are doomed.
Secondly, thin material will reveal holes in areas where they’re used to grip objects and tools. Again, it’ll only get bigger once a spot appears and the gloves are rendered useless. All gloves will have a shelf life, but clearly, some are made of more durable materials or have been designed to last longer. Those made from synthetic materials (nylon & polyester) won’t last as long.
Some gloves can be made from all leather, but some have a synthetic leather palm with a breathable lining, so it’s essential to check which material would suit your needs.
Size
Not all manufacturers have gloves to fit all-sized hands. The ones we tested had the most popular, but it is essential to know the size you’ll need. A poorly fitted glove can irritate the skin and lead to blistering, and that isn’t something that will bode well for efficient work. Try to squeeze your hand into a glove too small, and you will affect your range of movement, which can lead to a loss of grip.
Many of the listings we featured have size charts, so before you buy a particular brand, do ensure you measure your hand according to their sizing as they’re all different.
