Weeds are something we all try to keep down in our gardens, lawns, or driveways. They grow anywhere, whatever the climate. A high-quality backpack sprayer can make your life a lot easier.

It is a back-breaking job and all too time-consuming you can almost be weeding daily. There is nothing more disheartening than weeds growing better than our plants and flowers or making the lawn and driveway look unkempt. Small weed killer sprays do the job, but after a few sprinkles, your hand aches, and the contents get used up fast, making it expensive.

A backpack sprayer can make your life so much easier, has no backache at the end of the job, takes less time, and has many uses around the garden. Insecticides, herbicides, and plant supplements can all be done effectively and efficiently with a backpack sprayer.

When choosing a backpack sprayer, you soon come to realize there are many aspects to look at, such as types of nozzles, does it have a shoulder strap, does it have a comfortable handle, what chemicals can be used, area coverage, size of the tank; the list is endless.

Knowing how confusing all this can be, we have compiled a comprehensive, easy-to-read buyer’s guide to help you to decide which backpack sprayer is suitable for your needs.

Here’s the rundown on what we provide in this best backpack sprayer review article:

  • First, we pick our top 5 models and compare them side-by-side

Backpack Sprayers Buyers Guide

There are two types of backpack sprayers for you to choose from, motorized or manual pump action. We have reviewed both, and each has its pros and cons.

Firstly, consider how often you will use the sprayer. The motorized sprayer is more expensive, but if used daily for an hour or more, it can save you time and effort, whereas the manual pump sprayer would be more economical if used only 2 to 3 times a week for, say, 20 minutes.

Secondly, look at how much area is to be sprayed. If you have an acre or more or a large garden and driveway, a 4-gallon tank would be ideal, but if you have a more miniature garden and driveway, you could save time and money on a one or 2-gallon tank.

With sprayers that have high-quality Viton seals, very little maintenance is required. If you look after your sprayer, clean the tank out well, store it upside down to dry out completely, then there is no reason why your sprayer wouldn’t last a very long time.

All the products reviewed come with a warranty and good customer service teams.

Which Sprayer Would Best Suit Your Needs?

Four out of the five sprayers reviewed are suitable for both professional and recreational use. The Chapin, 1-gallon tank, is ideal for home use only because of its size and features.

Quality, dependability, efficiency are crucial for professional use. The four sprayers reviewed have all these qualities but vary in features and price, which is why the Field King Professional sprayer came out Best Overall.

The Roundup sprayer has quality features, would do a good job, and is very reasonably priced which is why we rated it Best Value.

For recreational use, all of the products reviewed would do a good job. If you don’t like the idea of pumping manually then Scott’s Lithium-ion battery-powered sprayer would be worth considering. Although it has a smaller tank it can still cover large areas and has the advantage of continual spraying.  This is a good product but being battery powered it is more expensive.

The Chapin 61500 sprayer has almost the same features as the Roundup sprayer but is a little higher in price but as with all Chapin ranges, there is good technical support.

The Chapin 2000 1 gallon tank is very popular, ideal for small gardens, and is very low priced, so low in fact you could afford to have one for weed killer and another for insecticide.  It is lightweight and easy to use so a good buy for a smaller person who would find it difficult to carry a sprayer on their back.

All of the sprayers reviewed in this guide are high quality, reliable, durable, easy to use, low maintenance, and affordable.  We hope you have found the information contained in this guide to be of value and has helped you make an informed decision on which sprayer is best suited for your needs before buying.
