Milwaukee Drills Buyers Guide

Milwaukee is a highly respected brand and has one of the largest product lines, and this can make it difficult for you to know exactly which one is right for you.  They all look pretty much the same after all! With this buyer’s guide, we will give you some features to look out for so you can choose the right drill for your needs.

How often will you use it?

Buying the most expensive drill would be lazy advice and one of the reasons Milwaukee has such a vast product range is so everyone can buy a drill from them.

If you are a construction worker then your needs are going to be different from someone who is doing the occasional job around the home.  You will also have to consider what drill you already have and decide if you want to replicate or upgrade it.

Knowing the types of jobs you will be using it for will be crucial.  For example, if you want to drill into the concrete then a basic drill will suffice but, for more heavy-duty jobs you will need to consider the drill’s performance under load.

Essentially, the higher the RPM the faster the drill bit moves through the hole.  However, the nearer the drill remains to its no-load speed the better it is for the motor, and the drill is working more efficiently. A balance of both is needed.

What do you need it for?

Do you need one drill or one of Milwaukee’s multi-packs?  We tested both but it comes down to your individual circumstances.

Milwaukee 2691-22 has both a drill and an impact driver which is great if you need to remove old and frozen nuts. But, it’s a lot more money to lay down than one drill on its own.

Battery or power?

Battery technology has come such a long way that there’s almost no difference in performance between a traditional corded drill and a battery-powered one.  There are pros and cons to each.

With a battery, it will need charging, and you’ll need to consider having more than one at hand.  With a cord, you are restricted by its length and whether there is a power supply nearby. A benefit of cordless is the Milwaukee M18 tools being compatible with each other and so if you have more than one power tool it’ll save you money. This works in a similar fashion to the Ryobi ONE+ system.

As with any tools purchase, you will have a budget to spend and it’s an art of getting the best deal sometimes.  Our advice is to decide what jobs you need the drill for and what features it needs to perform adequately.

From there, you can narrow down your choice and then buy the right model for your needs.  Bear in mind that it may not be a Milwaukee drill that meets all your needs within your budget.

We tested and reviewed 5 of the best Milwaukee drills on the market.  Our Best Overall award went to Milwaukee Electric Tools 2997-22 as it has fantastic power and battery life, and several features that make this the best Milwaukee drill.

Our Best Value award went to Milwaukee 2691-22 as it’s definitely Milwaukees best drill set.

We hope you have found our 5 Milwaukee drill reviews and buyers guide helpful.  Remember, it’s not about just buying the most expensive, or best-reviewed, but thinking about what you need it for and what features the drill needs to perform.  The model will then be decided upon based on those factors.
